What Are Headlice?

Headlice or nits are small insects that feed from the blood on your scalp. They lay eggs on the hair which hatch then they too move up the hair shaft to feed.

Do Lice make your head itch?

Yes, some people are more sensitive than others and can feel them moving on their scalp.

Should I get an over the counter lotion?

Chemicals and pesticide solutions have become less effective in the war against headlice.

How did I get Headlice?

Firstly, let's expel the myth that headlice like dirty hair. Headlice jump from head to head without prejudice, so if you’ve been in close proximity to a carrier you may find your very own head louse/lice.

Understanding Headlice

About Gem

My Name is Gem and I am the founder of The York Headlice Clinic. I have been a hairdresser in York for nearly 18 years and it really is my passion.

I have been the long-standing family hairdresser for local families for many years and still also work at York’s only children’s salon on Poppleton Road.

It is through my work with children and families, and my experience with my own children that I appreciate the need for a specialist clinic to deal with headlice quickly and efficiently.
